According to the neuroscientist and author, Lisa Genova, the best way to improve your memory at any age is by improving your ability to pay attention. One of the ways she suggests doing that is learning to meditate and/or do yoga. I cheered as I read this! One more reason to do two things I already love!
In my mindfulness meditation and yoga classes we are training the brain to pay attention - in this moment - observing and perceiving without judgment or interpretation.
Meditation is like going to the gym and doing a work out - but it’s a work out that makes your mind stronger. Kripalu yoga takes that same mindful focus and attention to body sensations as you move into various poses. Your mind gets stronger along with your body.
Whether you choose stillness or movement, mindfulness meditation and Kripalu yoga can sharpen your mind and improve your memory. I love that.
To learn more about memory I highly recommend Lisa Genova’s book, Remember: the Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting.
